5 Ways Your Diesel Fuel Injectors Can Cause Engine Problems
Testing the injectors from your tractors diesel engine can help diagnose engine problems.
Diesel Fuel Injectors are a important part of the fuel system on your tractor. They can affect the way the engine runs in very dramatic ways. Here are a few examples.
These explanations do not address electronic fuel injector issues specifically, however many parallels can be drawn.
1. Emissions-Black smoke means there is too much fuel per the volume of air. Sometimes black smoke is blamed on the injectors when it is really a plugged air filter. Again the fuel air ratio has to be correct so start with the air filter and work towards the more complicated and expensive issues.
2. Rough Idle-Plugged injectors cannot deliver fuel. Dirty injectors will cause a similar problem in that they are not delivering enough fuel for the engine to run properly.
3. Increased Fuel Consumption-When too much fuel is injected the result can be high fuel consumption.
4. Timing-Too low of a pressure setting will inject fuel too soon and vice versa. Fuel pumps are designed to create the pressure and volume. The injectors are designed to open at a certain pressure and deliver the atomized fuel to the cylinder.
5. Low Power-Leaks will cause many of the problems mentioned above, black smoke and increased consumption as well as low power issues.
Testing the injectors outside the engine can pinpoint many performance issues.
