The last straw


Just on two months ago (February 2011), I had Prorider replace the fuel sender and the rear guard struts on my Spyder, Lola. I considered this warranty work since the fuel sensor had been 'repaired' by replacing the console last year, and that didn't fix the problem, and we all know that the design for the rear guard struts is faulty, and they keep replacing them when they crack with faulty parts.

They charged me $485.70 for this, generously only charging their labour. I swallowed hard and paid it. I've had enough, I wanted these things done so that Lola would be in top nick so that I can sell her. I would never bring her back, so there was no point arguing.

Today (17 April), while tidying her up, I noticed that one of the rear guard strut mounting screws on the right (muffler) side was loose. That is unusual. We all know that they should be very tight to help combat the cracking, and Prorider have a habit of overtightening screws, which would have been helpful in this situation.

Bottom screw loose
As I bent down to tighten it, I noticed that the middle screw (the one that goes through the bracket on top of the swing arm) was loose too. Now I was concerned.

Middle nut pulled through mount
I found that the middle screw and the rear lower screw did not have the correct nuts on them. Instead of flanged nyloc nuts, they had plain nyloc nuts, and these had been fitted without washers. That meant that the top one had pulled through the hole in the flange and had been floating.
